GEORGE Square will this evening resemble a race track as the motorcycle elite roar into Glasgow for one of the UK's biggest biking street events of the year.

More than 20,000 spectators are expected to gather for Superbikes in the Square when riders from around the world will show their skills.

There will be Scottish talent, including Stuart Easton of Hawick, who currently holds third spot in the British Superbikes Championship.

He said: "I can't wait to race at my home track' and meet the fans".

Along with the 15 teams, Scot Jonathan Adam, of the British Touring Car Championship and Airwaves BMW team, will also be present.

Joining the professionals this evening is rising star Sammi Tasker, 14, will be demonstrating on her pink 125CC bike.

Riding alongside Tasker will be 15-year-old Taylor Mackenzie, son of three-times British Superbike champion Niall Mackenzie.

Jillian Shedden, managing director of Fife's Knockhill racing circuit said: "Bringing the Superbikes to Glasgow gives us the opportunity to showcase a world-class championship in a world-class city."

The free event, presented by Swan in association with Motorpoint, Glasgow City Council, and Knockhill, runs from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Girl-band Atlanta cheerleaders the Scottish Rockettes will perform.

The event is an ideal taster for the Scottish rounds 12 and 13 of the ViSK British Superbike Championship to be held at Knockhill this weekend. Next month, round seven of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship will also be staged at the Fife track.
