DANCER Eva Podwalski leaps into action as she helps launch one of Glasgow's top events.

Eva, 21, and Munmeet Sandhu, 14, who perform with dance group Punjabi No 1, were at Masala Jaks in Springfield Quay to help promote the Mela Festival.

The free multi-cultural celebration will be held in Kelvingrove Park on Sunday June 17 between noon and 8pm and will feature vibrant and colourful music and dance for all the family.

Headline acts are Bhangra sensation Josh, the Latin beats of La Sonera Calaveras, the Parsonage Choir and Fugees United.

Other attractions this year include a children's tent with games and puppet show and South Asian and European food.

There will also be stalls selling everything from jewellery to rugs, art exhibitions, a sports zone with cricket and kabbadi and the new youth zone with DJ workshops.

City council culture and sport spokesman Archie Graham said: "The Glasgow Mela is now an established and much-anticipated event.

"Glasgow is a city rich in diversity and the Mela is a celebration of all that binds us together."
