June 15.

What a funny old world we live in. After overdosing on rugby on the

television, which included head-butts, stamping, raking, and the sight

of an Army officer losing his temper and brawling on the international

rugby pitch, we hear of a police officer who may lose his job because he

gave a youth a cuff on the ear.

The youth was part of a group frightening OAPs and kicking an OAP's

door.

It would seem, in this day and age, that violence is all right if it

happens on the international rugby pitch. It appears to be permissible

for an officer -- Army or police -- to brawl in public on the sports

field (ask Doddie Weir about his slap on the ear by a policeman).

Perhaps the PC in Devon should take up international rugby.
