* MORRIS Hatalsky had eight birdies yesterday to take a one-stroke

lead after the first round of the Greater Milwaukee Open which he won 10

years ago.

Behind him was Steve Pate, who birdied the last three holes for a

seven-under-par 65 at Tuckaway Country Club. Jay Haas, Russell

Beiersdorf and Tom Sieckmann were at 66.

Hatalsky, 41, had his last tour victory in 1990, when he won the Bank

of Boston Classic. He is in his eighteenth year on the PGA Tour.

Ranked 124th on the money List with $90,713, Hatalsky had his best

finishes this year tying for second in the Deposit Guaranty Classic and

tenth in the Kemper Open.

Pate, 32, ranks No.56 on the money List with $234,219. He has had

three top-10 finishes, tying for seventh at the Infiniti Tournament of

Champions, sixth at the Honda Classic, and eighth at the MCI Heritage

Classic.

On 67 were 12 players, including defending champion Richard Zokol.
