THE visit to Glasgow tonight by two officials of Sinn Fein will go

ahead despite misgivings in several quarters following the events in

Northern Ireland at the weekend. Mr Tom Hartley, chairman of the

organisation, is to address a meeting in the City Hall organised by the

Glasgow Irish Republican Support Group. Strathclyde Police, in a

prepared statement, said yesterday: ''We will continue to monitor the

situation, and it is our intention, if it proves necessary, to police

the event.''

The only organisations banned from holding meetings in Glasgow

District Council property are the National Front and the British

National Party. However, Councillor Ian Thomas, an Independent

Conservative member of the council, said yesterday he wanted to see the

ban extended to other groups such as Sinn Fein and the Loyalists.
