THE UK's first pollen guide for 40 years has been produced with the

aid of the bees' knees. Author Dr William Kirk, an ecology lecturer of

Keele University, Staffordshire, stalked bees among the flower beds with

a net. He said: ''After catching the bee, you knock the pollen off its

legs and release it without harm. The volume identifies 268 British

species of pollen, giving a range of 560 colours.
