CARL Lewis ran a 4 x 100 metres relay with US Olympic team-mates at
Ingolstadt, West Germany, yesterday even though he is unlikely to be
picked for the event in Barcelona. Lewis and Santa Monica Track Club
comrades Mark Witherspoon, Leroy Burrell, and Mike Marsh took first
place in 38.12sec. A Canadian team of Ben Johnson, Glenroy Gilbert,
Peter O'Gelvey. and Anthony Wilson were second in 39.34.
NAMIBIAN sprinter Frankie Fredericks yesterday won the 100 metres in
10.16sec. at the Nambu Memorial meeting in Sapporo, northern Japan.
Fredericks, a rising African star in sprint events, had clocked 9.91 at
the Villeneuve d'Ascq grand prix meeting in France on July 7. He also
won the 200m there in 19.99.
