MILES Maclagan's positive approach again paid dividends in the third

leg of the LTA Satellite Circuit at Telford yesterday. The 18-year-old

Scot was awarded a wild card into the main draw and reached the second

round with a three-set victory over seventh seed Lionel Berthez from

France.

After losing the first set 6-2, Maclagan fought back to take the

second 6-3. A controversial line call against him in the fourth game of

the final set put him 3-1 behind but he re-asserted his authority and

ran out a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 winner. In today's last 16 he faces Hans Priller

of Austria.

Jennifer Duncan and Jason Barnett, winners of the singles titles at

the recent Scottish Junior Indoor championships, have a chance to test

themselves against Britain's top young players at Welwyn Garden City

this weekend after earning places in the 16-player Masters event of the

LTA 18-and-under winter circuit.

Duncan, who won 10 circuit points from the three qualifying legs to

finish sixteenth, has been drawn in a round robin section which includes

top seed Mandy Wainwright of Essex, Surrey's Candy Reid, and Karen

Nicholson of Bedfordshire.

Barnett, twelfth on the points table, takes on third seed Matthew

Coombs of Essex, Durham's Ben O'Connor, and Avon's Paul Martin who beat

Scottish No.1 Ross Matheson on the British Tour last month.
