Motorists are being driven to distraction by car gadgets, it was revealed yesterday.

As many as 70% of motorists admitted being put off by gadgets and would feel safer with fewer of them, a survey by website motors.co.uk found.

The biggest distraction proved to be sat nav, with nearly 30% of those questioned saying it affected their driving.

Using iPods and CDs were also big factors in causing confusion, as was steering wheel control buttons.

Drivers also found smoking, eating and drinking as well as children and pets distracting in the car.

Motors.co.uk marketing manager Katie Armitage said: "On the back of these findings, we are urging manufacturers to go back to basics and consider the safety of drivers and how they use the add-ons, with the emphasis on not losing concentration."
