Oxford United’s Riva Casley has been selected to represent England Under 16s.

The 16-year-old is a first-year member of United’s Under 17 Academy side which reached the quarter-finals of this season’s Girls’ FA Youth Cup.

Now she has been named in the 20-strong squad for next month’s UEFA Development Tournament at St George’s Park in Burton.

Casley will spend a week with the side from Monday, April 13 and is likely to be involved in matches against Switzerland, Sweden and France.

Richard Blackmore, general manager of Oxford’s girls’ Academy, said the call-up was ample reward for Casley’s efforts.

He commented: “It’s great news for Riva and also for the club as well, because the coaches have put in a lot of work to develop top quality players and the players themselves have worked hard to continue their improvement.

“I’m confident Riva will do really well for England.

“Riva is one of five or six very bright players currently in their first year at under 17 level, and we’re really looking forward to seeing that age band progress to senior level.”

Casley is the second Oxford United girl to be selected for a national side this season after Ava Kuyken was called up for the England Under 15 Schools’ squad in January.

They take part in the Bob Docherty Cup in Glasgow from April 6-9.
