ANDY Whing was on target as Oxford United won a development game 2-0 against Southend United.
The midfielder, who had earlier seen a header cleared off the line, opened the scoring from close range just before half-time at Roman Way.
Will Hoskins was among the senior players in the side and the striker was involved in the second goal, six minutes after the restart.
Latching on to a pass from James Roberts, his shot was turned in by one of two unnamed triallists in the side.
United are in action again this evening, when a youthful side will take on Easington Sports in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.
The game at Abingdon United's Northcourt Road kicks off at 7.30pm.
