GARY Waddock admits it is sad to see former club Wycombe Wanderers at risk of relegation as they look to Oxford United for a favour.

The U’s could have a say in which club falls out of the Football League tomorrow.

If they beat Northampton Town, Wycombe would climb out of danger at the Cobblers’ expense – if they can win at already relegated Torquay United.

Waddock spent three years at Adams Park before he was sacked in September 2012.

Some contacts remain from his tenure, but any help he can provide tomorrow will be incidental as he attempts to halt United’s run of six defeats in seven games.

He said: “Of course it’s sad for them.

“I have friends there and I don’t want to see that happen, but I’m the manager of Oxford, I’m proud of that and whatever Wycombe are going through they will have to deal with that.

“But I’m totally professional and I want to get a result for Oxford, not for any other club.”

Waddock was replaced by Gareth Ainsworth, who he brought to the club as a player in 2009.

The former QPR midfielder is now praying the U’s to play a role for a great escape.

He said: “There’s a team just up the road that can do us a favour which would help, and we’ve got to do our job at Torquay so we’re concentrating totally on that.”

Elsewhere, next season’s line-up for Sky Bet League Two will nearly be complete tomorrow afternoon.

Stevenage and Shrewsbury have already been relegated from League One.

Carlisle and Tranmere occupy the other two places, but Crewe and Notts County could still be caught.

Luton Town’s promotion from the Skrill Premier was sealed last month, leaving one place up for grabs via the play-offs.

Halifax, Cambridge, Gateshead and Grimsby are involved.
