  • "This pitch has never been anywhere near the standard of the Manor Pitch. I know we never had rugby played on it on a s regular basis as Football but I think that proves it's modern methods and poor grounds keeping this pitch has never looked as lush and never wears as well as the old Manor did. It's a simple solution, dig it up and relay it using a good draining base and use high quality fescue turf, it binds well and produces a better root system than the current poor quality pitch. It would then stand up better to the frequent use and perform better. Although at the end of the day it's the same pitch for both sides!"

GARY Waddock expects more work will be done this summer to improve the playing surface at the Kassam Stadium.

A week ago, United’s players were critical of the pitch after the 1-0 home defeat to York City, which came days after a superb display in winning 2-0 on an excellent deck at Plymouth Argyle.

More than £50,000 was invested by the U’s and fellow tenants London Welsh last summer.

The surface will continue to be used at least once a week, with the rugby club recently agreeing to extend their stay by three years.

Waddock wants to play entertaining football and is keen to have a decent pitch.

He said: “I believe there are plans to do some work on it.

“I’ve had a million and one things to do since I’ve been here and the pitch will come up in conversation over the next couple of weeks with the chairman.

“It doesn’t matter what style you are trying to play you want a nice pitch.

“Come the beginning of the season I’m sure it will be in a good state.”
