Banbury United manager Edwin Stein has praised the character of his players after they ended their 11-match losing streak in all competitions with a midweek cup victory against Grendon Rangers.

A Kynan Isaac double and a Marcus Green strike sealed the win after Grendon had gone ahead.

Although the Buckingham Charity Cup is probably not high on his list of priorities, he was delighted with the 3-1 extra-time win.

Now Stein wants a repeat show at home to Bashley tomorrow as they look for their first Calor League Premier Division victory in nine attempts.

“The monkey is off our back,” said Stein. “A win is a win whoever you are playing.

“With ten minutes to go, we were a goal down, but we turned it around. The players showed a lot of character and resilience.”

Bashley are second bottom, but Stein is not getting carried away.

“No games are easy particularly when you’ve been on a run like ours, but hopefully, we can take the confidence gained from Tuesday’s win into the game.”

Banbury will be unchanged.

Didcot Town joint boss Ian Concannon says Jack Longford will keep his place up front should regular frontman Pablo Haysham fail to make it.

On Saturday, with Haysham out with a hamstring injury, defender Longford scored twice in the 3-2 win against Guildford City.

Concannon said: “I was pleased for him. He’s done well for us this season wherever he has played.”

“Pablo’s had this problem before and we won’t risk him. He will only play if he’s 100 per cent fit.”

North Leigh boss Mark Gee says they will not be looking to replace James Dobson after he joined Central Division side Slough.

“It’s a good move for him,” said Gee. “He wasn’t getting enough games for us. We won’t be bringing anyone in, we are where we are for the next eight games.”
