Oxford City manager Mike Ford has admitted he may look to bring in a loan keeper for tomorrow’s Skrill North trip to Boston United unless Victor Francoz can prove his fitness.

With Mark Scott sidelined by a back injury, Francoz played in Tuesday’s 6-2 extra-time win against Banbury United in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.

But Ford was not overly impressed by the Frenchman in his first game since recovering from a calf injury caused when he fell out of a tree trying to rescue a cat.

“I’ve got two very good keepers, but I can’t afford play a keeper who is not match-fit,” said Ford.

“Victor did okay, but he didn’t look fit. He told me he was, but I wasn’t convinced.

“I thought he looked very rusty. He didn’t look sharp.

“So I will speak to the staff about how he did in training.

“But there is a possiblity we will look to bring in a keeper on loan.

“Scott has done pretty well for us, so it’s a shame he’s out.

“It left me with no alternative but to pick Victor.”

One of the City line-up who did catch the eye against Banbury was striker Mike Symons, who scored his first hat-trick in City colours.

Last month Ford urged the hitman to impose himself more and has been delighted with the response.

Ford added: “Symons will start against Boston. I think for him to get that hat-trick will do him the power of good.

“We had a private chat a few weeks ago and he has taken it on board.

“There’s been nothing wrong with his general play – all that was missing was goals. This should fill him with confidence.”

Ford said the trip to Boston, held no fears for his side.

“We can go out and enjoy it,” he added. “They’ll be 1,000 people turning up expecting us to lose. They win virtually every game there, so they’re due a loss.”

Oxford City (v Boston Utd, away): Francoz, Ballard, Stonehouse, Pook, Henderson, Preece, McEachran, Pond, Symons, Jackson, Winters, Willmott, Janes, McNish, Learoyd.
