Former Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo is believed to have applied for the vacant job at Oxford United.

The 49-year-old has an impressive CV, with stints across Europe, most recently in charge of the Lithuania national team.

He stepped down in September and is understood to be keen to get back into management, preferably in England.

Born in Romania but a Hungarian citizen, the former midfielder has been linked to a variety of jobs in the past week, including the vacancies at Shrewsbury Town and Stenhousemuir.

Laszlo enjoyed success north of the border, guiding Hearts into the Europa League via a third-place finish in the Scottish Premier League in 2009.

He would be a left-field candidate, but a spell in charge of German club Borussia Monchengladbach’s youth set-up may be of interest to U’s chairman Ian Lenagan, who is looking for someone to develop talent.

Accrington manager James Beattie remains the favourite with bookmakers, just ahead of caretaker boss Mickey Lewis, who has picked up six points during his four games in charge.
