  • "I think it's clear the chairman is taking a sensible approach here. Mickey is more than capable of holding the fort until a appointment is made. It's a big decision. I'd personally like to see a young manager (with a bit of experience) come in and look for the appointment to be for 5 year on like Wilder. Who had heard of him before he joined us? Their certainly won't be a big name appointment, we have to be realistic.
Preferably someone no more than 45 who has played at a decent level which contact and so on and who is a good coach. The Chairman is also appears to be looking for whoever it is to really buy into the development squad and bring players through."

Darren Purse has become the latest former Oxford United player to apply for the vacant manager's position.

The 36-year-old's CV has been sent into the club, joining ex-U's Dean Windass and David Rush, who wants to be considered for a coaching role, in the process.

Purse has his UEFA 'A' licence and is studying for a Diploma of Football Management at St George's Park in Burton.

The centre back joined Calor League Premier Division side Chesham United last month after a spell playing in Finland with IFK Mariehamn.

Purse made 72 appearances for United before moving to Birmingham City in a £700,000 deal in February 1998.
