WYCOMBE Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth had no complaints over the red card which made a huge impact on their 1-0 defeat to Oxford United.

Steven Craig was sent off for an elbow on Johnny Mullins, leaving the home side a man light for more than 70 minutes.

Ainsworth said: “The red card had a big toll on the game and unfortunately with ten men it’s always going to be difficult.

“I don’t think Steve (Craig) meant to get sent off, but if your arm’s flailing about then you’re risking it.

“I want to have a go at him, but I know he’s as gutted as anyone.”

Despite the red card, it took United until the 87th minute to find a way through, thanks to Nicky Wroe’s spectacular strike.

Ainsworth, whose side have won just once in 11 games, was pleased with Wanderers’ efforts.

He said: “I put my name to that performance. The fans appreciated it at the end and I did as well.

“The lads gave me every single ounce of energy they had, they were brilliant today.

“It’s taken a wonder strike from the edge of the box to beat us.

“We’re down, but if we play like that then we’re going to have no problems. We’ll win a lot more than we lose.”
