DAVID Hunt praised Wycombe Wanderers’ ten men for the way they frustrated Oxford United at Adams Park.

The home side had Steven Craig dismissed with more than three-quarters of the game still to play.

While they carried little attacking threat and surrendered most of the possession, the Chairboys defended well to keep out the U’s.

They held out until the 87th minute, when a high-quality strike from Nicky Wroe finally beat goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

Hunt was delighted for United to claim maximum points with the 1-0 win, but paid tribute to Wycombe’s display.

He said: “Credit to Wycombe, they made it very hard for us.

“They locked up shop and defended very well, putting their bodies on the line.

“They frustrated us and it made it tough, but I feel we created a lot of chances.

“We managed to get down the wings and thankfully Wroey popped up with the goal.

“I know a few of their lads and they looked shattered after the game.

“They worked very hard and if you were a neutral you would’ve thought they deserved something, but I’m not.”

It is almost ten months since United last lost away from home in the league and the result extended the unbeaten run this season to 11 games.

Key to the success has been at the back, where the defence have conceded just twice in their last six outings on the road in Sky Bet League Two.

Hunt has started every game this season – the only player along with keeper Ryan Clarke to do so – and thinks there is plenty more to come.

The full back said: “It is very solid, I think we have ten or 11 clean sheets now and we want to aim for a lot more, because if we do that, it will put us in good stead for promotion.”

Richard Wickson says...

A clean sheet at our goal is only good enough if we put the ball in the opposition goal, Football is a simple game, score more than the opposition = 3 points. Simple. Decent strikers needed, please apply to Mr. I. Lenagan, Kassam Stadium, Grenoble Road, Oxford.
