FOOTBALL: Bayliss blasts brilliant brace

Rhys Bayliss hit a double as Chipping Norton Town stayed three points clear at the top with a 3-3 home draw against second-placed West Witney in the Witney & District FA Premier Division.

In a programme badly hit by the recent wet weather, Warwick Thompkins completed the hosts’ tally.

Strikes from Shaun Rayfield, Chris Hirons and Alex Stubbs grabbed a share of the spoils for the visitors.

Division 1 leaders Hailey Res drew 1-1 at second-placed Brize Norton.

Pawel Bronk scored for the hosts, with Jacob Hambidge netting for the visitors.

Carterton Pumas closed the gap at the top with a 3-1 win against Bourton Rovers.

Stephane Ternier scored for Bourton, but goals from Ashley Davies, Dean Matthews and Darren Davenport won it for the hosts.

Eynsham SSC crushed Hanborough Res 4-1.

John Ayres and Matt Walker each bagged a brace, with Tom Kernaghan scoring for Boro’.

North Leigh Res thrashed Freeland 4-1, with goals from Josh Russell (2), Max Goodwin and Paul O’Hare.

FC Nomads slipped closer to the drop zone after going down 2-1 to Kingham.

Gareth Price and Dom Hemmings scored the telling goals for Kingham.

Nathan Beckett scored four of Bampton United’s goals as they hammered Division 3 bottom club Charlbury Town Res 6-2 away.

Dam Oyston’s brace sealed the rout, with Dom Crisp and Mark Clements netting for the hosts.

Brize Norton Res edged away from the drop zone after storming to an 8-1 win at Bourton Rovers Res Richard Duffy scored a hat-trick with Scott Peaper (2), Cieran Clarke, Shaun Rawlings and Ollie Puddle their other marksmen.

Carterton Town B edged a narrow home win over Spartan Rangers Res 1-0, with Lee Manley scoring the winner.

Kirtlington moved three points clear at the top of Division 2 with a 3-0 home success against basement boys Witney Royals Res.

Sam Bodinham, Callum Emmett and Sam Wheeler did the damage for the table-toppers.
