FOOTBALL: Concannon in the dark after Didcot fracas

8:20am Monday 16th December 2013

Didcot Town joint boss Ian Concannon was unable to shed any light on the incident which sparked ugly scenes at the end of the 2-2 draw at home to Mangotsfield United in Calor League Division 1 South & West, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Didcot midfielder Michael McKirnan was left on the ground in the centre circle after the final whistle after allegedly being punched, before the two sides brawled in the tunnel. Concannon said: “Apparently my lad’s (McKirnan) been punched in the stomach, but I didn’t see it, to be fair.

“I was out on the pitch at the time and missed what happened, so I can't really comment.”

Didcot’s joint boss praised his side’s tenaciousness, though, after they twice battled back to take a point.

The Railwaymen had to contend with blustery conditions and came under heavy pressure at times, but Concannon was impressed with his side’s battling qualities.

“We had to weather the storm, excuse the pun,” he said.

“We expect them to work hard as a minimum requirement and they did that today.

“We were certainly under the cosh in the first half with the weather, but we defended resolutely and I thought we deserved a point.”
