FOOTBALL: Kidlington crash out

6:00am Monday 9th December 2013

Kidlington had two men sent off and conceded two own goals as they lost 3-2 in extra-time to Bodmin Town on Saturday.

A 93rd-minute own goal from Shaun Morgan won the FA Carlsberg Vase third-round tie for the visitors.

Kidlington went behind on six minutes after a backpass from defender Liam Rice wrong-footed goalkeeper Matt Hyslop and bobbled past him into the net.

But the hosts levelled when a corner from skipper Lewis Brownhill was headed in by Tommy Castle.

The home side suffered a blow on 30 minutes when Ben Fitzmartin went off with a really nasty injury.

Play was suspended for six minutes as they awaited the arrival of an ambulance before he was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

On 40 minutes, Lee Doel restored Bodmin’s lead.

Two minutes later, Kidlington levelled when Brownhill’s rasping shot flew past Bodmin’s former Bristol Rovers keeper, Keith Miller.

With no further goals in the second half, the game went into extra time.

The first period was only three minutes old when lady luck played her part again.

This time, a cross from the right wing by Bodmin’s Sam Matthews was turned into his own net by Morgan.

It was all Kidlington for the rest of the game, even though they soon had Jack Quainton sent off for picking up a second yellow.

Morgan nearly atoned for his earlier error, but his header hit a post Castle then saw red for violent conduct.

Even with only nine men, Kidlington pressed hard, but they were unable to level.
