  • "This could be seen as Pompey, going through the motions to appoint the cheapest, available replacement for Whittingham, I'm guessing if they can't pay a fee for a player then they can't pay compensation to release an employed manager, If this is the case I'm suprised they are allowed to talk to anyone that would cost them, considering the amount of money they owe."

Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager

Oxford Mail: Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager

Portsmouth are expected to announce Richie Barker as their new manager.

The ex-Crawley boss is understood to be the south coast club's preferred choice to take over as boss according to sources.

It means that Chris Wilder will remain as Oxford United manager after he was interviewed for the position this week.

Pompey's seven-man board voted late last night on their No 1 candidate and it is believed Barker will be unveiled shortly, with Steve Coppell joining in a director of football role.
