  • "It must be a strange one for Wilder he speaks to Pompey, as is his right, presumably because he thinks they are a bigger club with greater potential but it looks like he didn't get offered the job. Now he's staying probably until the end of the season where only automatic promotion will raise his profile and potentially extend his contract. More pressure than he probably needs but he can't make excuses for poor losses any more because the team has managed to win a couple of games without key players in it.

The real tough call is that fans who are not keen on Wilder are not attending games and knowing he is looking elsewhere won't bring those fans back - unless of course league 1 beckons. Rock and a hard place."

Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager

Oxford Mail: Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager Portsmouth set to choose Richie Barker as new manager

Portsmouth are expected to announce Richie Barker as their new manager.

The ex-Crawley boss is understood to be the south coast club's preferred choice to take over as boss according to sources.

It means that Chris Wilder will remain as Oxford United manager after he was interviewed for the position this week.

Pompey's seven-man board voted late last night on their No 1 candidate and it is believed Barker will be unveiled shortly, with Steve Coppell joining in a director of football role.
