Oxford City 3

(Ballard 53 , Symons 56, Jackson 63)

Vauxhall Motors 0

An outstanding second-half display from Oxford City saw them extend their unbeaten run at Marsh Lane to six games as they blew away Vauxhall Motors in Skrill North, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The game was goalless at half-time, but Andy Ballard, Mike Symons and Kayden Jackson each struck as City took control in the second half.

Regular goalkeeper Victor Francoz, who trained with Oxford United last week, was left out of the squad as Mark Scott made his first appearance since August between the posts.

But Scott was rarely called into action and chances were thin on the ground for both sides, despite City enjoying the greater share of the play in the first half.

Tom Winters went closest to breaking the deadlock, but was unfortunate to see his thunderous strike deflected onto a post after 20 minutes.

Both Winters and fellow winger Jackson were looking lively, Jackson using his pace to beat several defenders before trying an ambitious long-range effort which was comfortably held by Vauxhall keeper Zac Jones.

The visitors’ best chance came just before the break when centre back Tom Hannigan shot over from the edge of the area at the end of an impressive passing move.

After the break, however, City turned up the heat on their visitors, who were unable to live with the home side’s attacking play.

Ballard finally broke Vauxhall’s resistance seven minutes after the restart, nipping in at the back post to tap in a deep cross from Darren Pond.

And just two minutes later, City’s lead was doubled by a fantastic effort from lone striker Symons, who received the ball with his back to goal before turning and striking into the back of the net.

Jackson completed the scoring with his fourth goal in six appearances, latching onto a beautiful ball from Winters and calmly slotting past the helpless keeper.

Their work done, City were then content to contain their opponents for the rest of the match, which they did comfortably.
