Banbury United never recovered from a disastrous start and the sending-off of Wayne Blossom as struggling St Neots claimed a 1-0 victory in their Calor LeaguePremier Division clash at Spencer Stadium.

The hosts went behind in the second minute when Jay Davies broke through and lobbed the advancing Leigh Bedwell in the Banbury goal.

St Neots nearly doubled their lead when a corner fell to Gavin Hoyte, whose shot hit the side-netting.

Michael Frew went close, while former Puritan Lewis Hilliard and Matt Nolan were both denied by good saves from Bedwell.

Banbury further suffered further frustration on the hour when defender Blossom was dismissed for a second booking.

The visitors’ keeper, Nathan Abbey, did not have a serious save to make in 90 minutes Banbury’s best chance in a lacklustre display fell to Anderson Pinto ten minutes from time, but he blasted the ball over the bar from 12 yards.
