JOSH Ruffels wants to make the leap from the development squad to Oxford United’s first team after regular appearances in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old has featured in seven of the side’s last 13 games and made his first league start in Tuesday’s goalless draw with Newport County.

With the U’s squad hit hard by injuries, Ruffels is in line to keep his place in the side against Fleetwood Town tomorrow.

The midfielder, who played one game for Coventry City in the Championship, is keen to move on from the development squad.

He said: “I kind of want to get away from that now.

“It’s good to get game time, but now I want to push for the first team.

“I feel like I’ve done quite well since I’ve been here. I’ve made quite a few appearances, so hopefully I can push on from there.”
