Oxford United comeback down to team spirit - Constable
OXFORD United’s late equaliser against Wycombe Wanderers proves the team spirit in the camp, according to James Constable.
And the striker believes it will serve the side well heading into tomorrow’s game with Rochdale.
Trailing 2-1 deep into stoppage time, the U’s were seconds from a first league defeat of the season.
But in the 96th minute Constable set up Johnny Mullins to earn a point, which kept them top of Sky Bet League Two on goal difference.
Recovering from setbacks has been a feature of their excellent start, coming from behind to beat Portsmouth 4-1 and winning 2-1 against Bury.
Several members of the squad spoke of how good the atmosphere was during the summer, but Constable feels the late drama shows it is more than just talk.
He said: “In pre-season you’re just saying it, but when you are losing with a couple of minutes to go and you really have to dig in, that’s when it really comes to the front.
“That’s when team spirit really shows and we’ll be looking to do the same against Rochdale to carry this run onwards.
“Hopefully there won’t be too many occasions where we go behind and have to fight back, but if we know we can do it then it does give you that bit of incentive to do it again.”
