FOOTBALL: Millers make it three in a row

North Leigh notched up their third Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West win on the trot thanks to two first half-goals as they won 2-0 at struggling Winchester.

The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty in the seventh minute.

The referee spotted a hefty push on Millers’ striker Ryan Brooks as he was about to head a Stuart Hole’s cross. Hole netted from the spot Centre-back Tom Franklin was forced off due to an injury, but the rejigged defence coped with the threat of Winchester’s player-manager James Taylor.

The visitors made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Conor McDonagh pounced on a defensive mix-up between Winchester keeper Rory Anderson and centre back Tommy Turner and buried a shot from close range.

The visitors continued to produce the best chances in the second half through Jacob Walcott, Jon Else, Hole and Andy Caton, but could not score again.

North Leigh: Warrell, Hole, Caton, Turk, Franklin (Organ 28), Westlake, Walcott (Alexis 85), Bowles, Brooks (Shepperd 73), McDonagh, Else. Sub not used: Clark.
