Banbury United were undone by inspired displays from Arlesey’s Drew Roberts and Nathan Abbey as they went down 3-1 in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division at Spencer Stadiumn on Tuesday night.

Striker Roberts set up two goals and scored one himself, while keeper Abbey denied the home side with a string of fine saves.

James Hatch put the visitors ahead on 11 minutes from Roberts’s cross, and Roberts hit a post before crossing for Chris Dillon to make it 2-0.

Roberts netted No 3 after a defensive mix-up early in the second half, prompting a Banbury onslaught.

Abbey kept them a bay until the 82nd minute when Nabil Sariff bundled home their consolation.

A strong second-half performance by Didcot Town proved enough to see off Taunton 3-0 at the Loop Meadow in Division 1 South & West.

The visitors shaded the first half without finding a way past keeper Marco Belloli-Pereira.

Pablo Haysham opened the scoring on 68 minutes before new signing Mark Janes made it 2-0 following good work from Morgan Williams.

Elliott Osborne-Ricketts rounded things off late on when he converted a penalty after he had been brought down in the box.

The two other Division 1 South & West fixtures between Bridgwater and North Leigh, and Paulton Rovers v Abingdon United were both postponed due to unfit pitches.
