RYAN Ledson hailed Oxford United’s hunger as they surged to a 4-1 win against Coventry City at the Kassam Stadium.

Scoring goals regularly has proved a struggle for the U’s in Sky Bet League One, but they cut loose against the Sky Blues.

It could easily have been an even bigger victory, but it all stemmed from the intensity the hosts showed from the outset.

Ledson said: “We have spoken about it all week that there’s no point in feeling sorry for teams.

“If we’re 2-0 up after 20 minutes, let’s go and make it 4-0 and really take them to the cleaners.”

He added: “It was a long week and we spoke very much about a quick start.

“The first 15 minutes we were on top and got the early goal.

“It makes it a bit easier then because they’re under the cosh and the crowd are behind us. I thought we were excellent.”

United’s performance came in front of 9,199, an attendance at the Kassam which was second only to the derby clash with Swindon Town this season.

Ledson said: “It was a great atmosphere, the fans were brilliant.

“They are the 12th man and when they get on top of us when we’re breaking forward and scoring goals there’s no better place to be.”

The game was the former Everton youngster’s first start at home and could hardly have gone better.

But Ledson admitted there was a flash of concern when, already on a booking, he accidentally caught an opponent after the ball had gone.

He said: “I was (worried) to be fair.

“I didn’t go for the man, I literally went to stop the ball and as he followed through it looked like I fouled him.

“Thankfully the ref didn’t see it and we won’t speak about that one now.”
