OXFORD United will find out which Category One academy side they will face in the EFL Trophy when the draw for the group stage is made tomorrow.

Inviting 16 teams from predominantly Premier League clubs is the most controversial element of the revamped competition, which was formerly the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Despite chairman Darryl Eales not being in favour, the U's board were among a majority of League One and League Two clubs to vote in favour of the one-season pilot at the English Football League (EFL)'s AGM in June.

In a statement the club cited the need to search for solutions to secure the cup's future was behind the decision.

The changes, which have been unpopular with many fans across the country, including United's trust OxVox, have also met with resistance from some top-flight clubs.

Several big names who were invited, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, have reportedly turned down the chance to take part.

The EFL will announce the 16 teams who are being added to the League One and League Two clubs at 9.30am tomorrow, with the draw coming half an hour later.

Details of the new format can be found here.
