OXFORD United Women have signed Jenna Legg and Laura Rafferty ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Bristol City in FA Women’s Super League 2.

The pair are joining United on short-term loan deals from Chelsea.

Legg, 19 and has played for England under 19s, while Rafferty, 20, is a member of the senior Northern Ireland squad.

Both can play in either defence or midfield and are eligible to play at Bristol.

Coach Jonny Edmunds is confident United will pick up where they left off.

More than a month has passed since their last game, when they recorded a third successive victory and clean sheet with a 2-0 home win over struggling Watford.

Edmunds, who takes charge of the side this evening in the absence of manager Les Taylor, said: “Although Les isn’t here, our preparation is exactly the same and we’ll have the same game plan.

“We’re not going to shout from the rooftops that we’ve won our last three games.

“We’re just going to keep our heads down and go about our business and hopefully get the right result.”

The time off has allowed defender Rosie Lane to recover from a thigh strain and midfielder Laura Nichol to overcome an ankle injury.

And while Edmunds acknowledged Oxford’s momentum may have been disturbed by the lay-off, he is confident the side will come back stronger.

“I think possibly the break just came a little too early for us because we were just beginning to hit our best form,” he said.

“But it’s offered everyone a chance to refresh themselves. We’re looking forward to getting back to work now.”

United’s only absentee is defender Katja Hakala, who is unavailable.
