JAMES Roberts scored four goals as Oxford United beat Oxford City 6-1 to win their first Oxfordshire Senior Cup since 2013.

The striker, who did not score in a loan spell at City earlier this season, stood out in a final at the Kassam Stadium contested by two youthful sides.

George Jeacock scored United’s other two goals, while Conor McDonagh bagged City’s consolation.

Roberts opened the scoring on 13 minutes, running on to Jordan Graham’s flick-on and scoring at the second attempt after City goalkeeper Craig Hill parried the striker’s initial shot.

The underdogs hit back and Matt Whichelow had a shot cleared off the line by Freddie Grant, while U’s goalkeeper Jack Stevens tipped Reece Fleet’s rising drive over the crossbar.

Jeacock outmuscled Jordy Ngathe to double the lead, but McDonagh pulled a goal back from close range on the stroke of half-time.

United though found another gear after the break.

Roberts showed a touch of class to chip Hill from 12 yards following sharp build-up play between Jonny Giles and Miles Welch-Hayes.

Jeacock made it 4-1 just after the hour, curling expertly in off the post after taking advantage of a slip in City’s defence.

The striker, offered a professional contract last month, quickly turned provider to cut back for Roberts to seal his hat-trick 20 minutes from time.

There was still time for him to add to his tally, firing a low left-footed shot into the net in the 89th minute to seal a convincing victory.
