Kemar Roofe has thanked Oxford United for giving him the chance to play the best football of his career.

And while the West Bromwich Albion forward’s loan expires after tomorrow’s trip to Newport County, he has not ruled out a return this summer.

In a season when United have experimented with a variety of loan moves, few have had Roofe’s impact.

A run of five goals in the last six games have spearheaded the side’s strong finish to the campaign and earned him a nomination for April’s Sky Bet League Two player of the month.

It all means Roofe, who is yet to play for the Baggies and has had mixed reviews in previous loan spells, is thrilled with the way the move has turned out.

“I’m very happy,” he said.

“The first aim was to get into the team and own a shirt in the starting XI.

“I feel like I’ve done that and the team performances have helped my individual performances as well.

“It’s been the best time of my footballing career.

“I’ve been doing this for what seems like a long time (and) haven’t had my break yet, but it’s slowly coming now.

“Hopefully it continues.”

He added: “I want to say thanks for all the support and good feedback everyone has given me.

“I always knew my ability and what I can do, but being at Oxford I’ve been able to show everybody, that’s the key.”

Roofe will return to The Hawthorns next week and he is hoping the rich vein of form while at United could still catch the eye of his parent club.

For now the 22-year-old’s future is up in the air, with his contract at West Brom expiring this summer.

The U’s are keen on making an offer if he becomes available, although the impressive recent form could make their task more difficult by alerting clubs further up the pyramid.

Roofe insists he has no idea what will happen next, although a reunion with Michael Appleton is not out of the question.

He said: “I don’t know myself what I’m going to be doing next season. I’m still waiting to find out myself, but you never know.

“I would love to come back here, it’s been really good.

“If I do have a chance to come back, I’d think about it and it could be a possibility.”
