GEORGE Baldock said he found it difficult to gel in time with his Oxford United teammates as the full back’s debut ended in defeat at Burton Albion.

The 21-year-old came straight into the starting line-up after joining on loan from MK Dons on Thursday.

He was one of three new signings in the squad, along with Kemar Roofe and Jamie Ashdown.

But Baldock acknowledged it was tricky to know how his teammates liked to play in such a short space of time.

He said: “It is difficult, but that’s not an excuse.

Latest United news:

“I will get to know my midfielders and who are the ones who are going to hit the long ball and who are going to keep it ticking over.

“I will make my runs off that. I didn’t really know whether to stick or twist, that’s football.

“You get used to playing with them and there are some good individuals in the camp.”

United have signed 21 players this season and head coach Michael Appleton is keen to bring in two more as soon as possible.

With just 15 games left there is little time for players to adjust, but Baldock did not think it would have an adverse effect on what looks like being a scrap to avoid relegation.

“It is tricky, but I think we should have enough,” he said.

“I can’t lie about that fact, we are good enough to stay in the division, we’ve just got to put the points on the board and I’m hoping and praying we can do that.”

Baldock was frustrated to come away with nothing in a game where little separated the sides.

He said: “It’s not like we were awful.

“It was just a bitty game, there wasn’t much in it.

“I can’t come away and say we’ve been battered or outplayed, because we weren’t.

“But what they are very good at is getting men around the ball and putting pressure on the opposition.”
