Will Hoskins is due to reach a major milestone in his comeback from injury next week as the striker rejoins full training.

The 28-year-old has been on the sidelines for three months, since sustaining a serious groin injury during the 1-1 draw at Southend United.

The recovery has been carefully managed by the U’s, who have been keen to do all they can to ensure once Hoskins returns there is minimal risk of further problems.

He has done some work with the squad already, but has gone back into the gym over the last few days for sessions with physiotherapist Andrew Proctor.

  •  Latest United news:

Head coach Michael Appleton is now optimistic Hoskins will be able to train within days.

He said: “Will did a bit of training with us last week and then he’s had a week with Procs doing some strength stuff.

“I think he’s going to be in with us full-time on Monday I’m told.

“It’s not about integrating him into the session and pulling out, it’s full-on, whatever we do on Monday he’s a part of that.”

It could still be a while before Hoskins is fit to play first-team games, however.

Appleton wants to see him come through a handful of development matches before considering him for competitive duty.

“I still think Will is a good few weeks away,” he added.

“In my head I’ve got January and if it’s anything less it will be a bonus.”
