SAM Powell kept his nerve to snatch a dramatic last-ball victory for Oxfordshire Under 17s in their friendly against Wiltshire at Marshfield.

After bowling out the hosts for 196 in 49.4 overs, Oxon seemed on course for an easy victory thanks to a fine stand between George Tait (59) and Christian Warwick (41).

But there followed a flurry of wickets, before Powell (18no) struck the winning runs off the final ball to seal a nail-biting two-wicket success.

Oxfordshire Under 14s’ good run came to an end when they lost by six wickets to Wiltshire in their ECB Cup Group 3 game at Faringdon.

Freddie Smith (51), James Coles (48), Luke Charlesworth (30) and Oliver Deans (26) all contributed, but none could make a big score as Oxon were bowled out for 206 in the 47th over.

Wiltshire passed the target with six wickets remaining.

A century partnership between Magnus Wrottesley (58) and Ted Phillips (74) guided Oxfordshire Under 11s to a five-wicket success over Berkshire in a friendly at Reading Bluecoat School.

Earlier, Berkshire reached 175-6 from their 40 overs, with Freddie Deans (2-15) and Rory Nicholson (2-17) the pick of the bowlers.

Oxfordshire Girls Under 15s were trounced by ten wickets in their Women’s County Championship A Division game against Warwickshire at Great & Little Tew.

After choosing to bat first, Oxon could only post 54 as they were bowled out in the 29th over, Phoebe Hall taking four wickets. Laura Jacob top-scored with 16.

Warwicks reached the total without losing a wicket.

After being put in to bat, Oxon were indebted to Rosie Woods (25) and Lucy Johnson (18) as they posted a competitive total of 117-8 from their 25 overs.

It was nip and tuck before Francis wrapped up Oxon’s win.
