YOUTH CRICKET: Tew claim cup glory

Curtly Slatter blasted an unbeaten half-century as Great & Little Tew were crowned Oxfordshire under 17 champions.

Slatter’s 58 not out led his side to an eight-wicket win over Aston Rowant at Horspath to pick up the Honey-B Trophy.

Rowant found runs hard to come by against a tight Tew attack, backed up by superb fielding and catching.

Adam Muttitt held things together while wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end, but when he was out for 41 with the score on 71 the momentum was lost.

Rowant could manage only 86-8 off their 20 overs.

Chris Hickman was the pick of the bowlers for Tew with 4-16, including an astonishing 19th over in which he produced a triple-wicket maiden.

Tew’s reply got off to a sound start as Slatter and Jordan Garrett put on 29 for the first wicket and from then on the result was never in doubt.

Josh Garrett hit the winning runs with a spectacular six, but it was Slatter’s performance which won him the man-of-the-match award.

RESULT Aston Rowant 86-6 (A Muttitt 41, C Hickman 4-16), Great & Little Tew 89-2 (C Slatter 58no).
