CRICKET: Kaufman climbs to sixth
Minor Counties Championship
RICHARD Kaufman’s late surge saw him finish the season as the Minor Counties Championship’s sixth highest run scorer.
Kaufman, who captained Oxfordshire for their first four Western Division matches in Ian Hawtin’s absence, amassed 442 runs in just eight innings.
And having taken 15 wickets with his off-spin, he also finished a commendable 25th in the bowling rankings.
Kaufman scored 160 and 168 in Oxfordshire’s final two matches to end up 76 runs behind the competition’s leading batsman – Cheshire’s Khalid Sawas.
Once again, former Sussex and Middlesex seamer Chad Keegan was Oxon’s leading wicket-taker, claiming 19 victims at an average of 18.31 to finish 13th in the standings.
Banbury’s Jonny Cater, who made his maiden Oxfordshire century against Herefordshire, provided Oxon’s best batting average with his 214 runs coming at 71.33.
Oxford’s left-arm spinner Francois Vainker, who is now coaching cricket in South America, had the county’s best average, with his 13 wickets coming at 14.92 runs each.
