YOUTH CRICKET: Spinners finish with a flourish

Under 17

OXFORDSHIRE’S season ended with another emphatic victory – an 81-run success over Wiltshire at Stonesfield.

Oxon amassed a huge total of 324-9 from their 50 overs, and, despite a superb century from Wiltshire opener Kit Patrick, their reply was not enough.

The consistent Joe Barrett scored 53, while Miles Hammond (85), Curtly Slatter (67) and Markus Jeacock (41) also starred as Oxon raced along at more than six runs an over.

Patrick led from the front in Wiltshire’s reply, his century coming up in just 62 balls, including 13 fours and a six.

But when he fell to left-arm spinner Chris Leaney, Wiltshire’s spirited reply subsided.

At one stage, the visitors were 172-3 from 22 overs, only for Oxon’s spinners to turn the screw.

Christian Hollingworth finished with figures of 4-29, while Leaney claimed 3-10 from six tight overs.

The victory brought the curtain down on Oxfordshire’s season in style, and with many still able to play next year, hopes will be high for a successful 2013.
