CRICKET: Oxon Under 17s are sent spinning

Oxfordshire Under 17s fell to a 39-run defeat against Gloucestershire in their final warm-up game at Apperley.

It was scheduled to be a two-day game, but with rain forecast, it was decided to play a 50-overs contest on day one.

Put in to bat by Oxon captain Adam Muttit, the hosts struggled against seamer Joe Butcher, who yielded just nine runs in seven overs.

But it was spinners Miles Hammond and Chris Leaney who shone as Gloucestershire were all out for 194.

Oxons openers Joe Barrett and Muttitt put on 67 for the first wicket, but the rest of the batsmen struggled against spinner Ben Ringrose, who took 6-31 from 8.5 overs as Oxon were dismissed for 155.

Scores: Gloucs Under 17 194 (4.5 ovs, K Smith 45, J Cowles 44, B Ringrose 39, C Leaney 3-34, M Hammond 3-41), Oxfordshire Under 17 155 (44.5 ovs, J Barrett 50, B Ringrose 6-31).

OXON Under 15s’ ECB Championship campaign got off to poor start as they lost by ten wickets to Staffordshire.

Put in, Oxon were bowled out for 79, the only resistance coming from Alex Davies (21) and Tom Costley (17).

Staffordshire cruised home in 25 overs.
