CRICKET: Brad's efforts in vain for Oxford
10:30am Monday 14th May 2012 in Other Cricket
BRAD Sutherland’s first five-wicket haul proved in vain as Oxford slumped to a 39-run defeat at promoted Burnham in Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.
Sutherland took 5-65 off 20 overs as last year’s Division 2 West champions were bowled out for 174 after new Oxford skipper Ian Crosby won the toss and elected to bowl.
Sutherland reduced Burnham to 28-3, but Obi Sawar (55) and Aftab Khan (35) led the hosts’ fightback, before they were all out.
Oxford’s reply started in steady fashion, but after Dan King and Stewart Laudat fell with the score on 39, they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Spinners Aftab Khan (5-38) and Sajid Ali (3-43) did the damage as Oxford were bowled out for 135 in the 52nd over, with Crosby left high and dry on 35 not out.
