YOUTH CRICKET: Slatter stars for Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire Under 17s recorded an emphatic eight-wicket victory in their opening friendly of the season against St Edward’s School (Oxford).

Oxon bowled and fielded well to restrict their hosts to 130 all out, despite having them at 93-8.

Left-arm spinner Chris Leaney was the pick of the bowlers with 3-15 from 13 probing overs.

Oxfordshire’s reply got off to a solid start with captain Adam Muttitt and Chris Goodman putting on 53 for the first wicket.

Although the pair both fell in quick succession, Andrew Tolson and Curtly Slatter shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 72 to see Oxfordshire to victory with more than 18 overs to spare.

Slatter was particularly punishing, hitting five fours and two huge sixes on his way to 46 not out in only 34 balls.
