CRICKET: Oxon over 50s face Kent

Oxfordshire's veterans will take on Kent at home in the semi-finals of the ECB 50+ County Championship on Sunday.

A venue for the last-four clash has still to be finalised, with either Wales/Middlesex or Somerset contesting the other semi-final.

Should Oxon reach the final for a second time in three years, they will play at a venue to be fixed on Sunday, September 19.

  • THE MP Sports Cherwell League have amazingly received their first complete set of averages.

Abingdon Vale 2nd and Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd completed their seasons on Saturday as both are in divisions with only nine teams.

And Abingdon Vale secretary Paul White revealed on Monday that he had sent the league his club’s averages that morning!

  • BRIGHTWELL-cum-Sotwell CC will officially open their new £20,000 cricket nets at 7pm on Friday.

Club spokesman Jerry Waters said: “It’s quite an achievement for the club as the junior section has only been going for three years and our under 13s won the Oxfordshire Gauntlett Goblett trophy this year.

“We have teams at under nine, 11 and 13 level and aim to start up an under 15s in 2011.

We are looking to recruit players for that age group.”

Why is it clubs in the Cherwell League, constantly feel threatened waiting for the next fine, this is highlighted above by recording it as news, when a team averages have been submitted on time, worrying!!! We only want to play Cricket dont we?

Well done the over 50 squad great stuff.

Only thing that Abingdon have won recently.

Not difficult these days though with the advent of the playcricket website, you put the scorecard on and it does them for you. Rocket science? Nah

AROUND THE CORNER ON THE 45, I know what you mean. The Cherwell league love to fine clubs, be it in points or money, fo the smallest of things. I think it is their lack of understanding of the game, as very few of them have played much beyond school. I heard they're thinking of bringing in fines for using the wrong colour pen when completing the forms!

It all gets a bit ridiculous, when clubs are fined for not putting down the players in the correct order and for incorrect spelling on the result cards. Taking things a bit too far?

list-toll.... How apt!

its exactly the same for rugby team sheets and results cards, and you get all the points you won deducted regardless of whether it was a spelling mistake or not. The registration system is a lot tougher on mistakes as well. Stop whinging and thinking you're hard done by

Power common sense should be applied, we want to play cricket and enjoy it have a beer afterwards but we spend time filling forms, in triplicate, teas, umpires, who wants to be a captain?? On the field duties should be the hardest part not after the match. Not afterwards

Most rugby games I presume will be finished by 4.45 wonder what time you have to submit all your forms and reports by???? or do the ref's do something!!!

We cricket buffs have till 7:30, or is it 100 overs or is it 7:15 still confused on that one

Couldn't agree more Around the Corner, I've lost count the times I've heard someone say, I don't mind captaining on the pitch, but can't face the admin part of the job. Power is just backing up his Dad on the Cherwell Commitee!

Have to fill out the team sheet beforehand and hand it in to the ref, and phone the result in no more than 30 mins from the end of the game. If you dont want to do the admin at your club, simply get someone else to do it. Captaincy comes with responsibility, such as controlling your players etc, and it seems some captains cant even be bothered with that. I'm not defending the committee, but it seems to me that a lot of you losers have nothing else to do but moan about all sorts of irrelevant rubbish.

Most people play sport for a bit of fun and relaxation, to try and escape the boring bits of life, in some cases work (where you also get bogged down with tedious admin) I agree some rules and regulations are needed to play semi competitive sport, but it's going too far.
Also Power, just because some of us don't agree with you on here, it doesn't mean you have to call us losers, it's called a difference of opinion, and that's this forum is for.

that's what this forum is for....Sorry apart from being a loser, I can't construct a sentence properly, another fine maybe?

Not sure what club you play for Power but you sound overly defensive of the rules and policy of this league. Captaincy does come with responsibilty, surprised they are not paid for it....

Yes 'clever' most people do. But a small minority devote hours of their free time to make sure that happens. Power or myself sticking up for those that do that is no bad thing. Want to change things? Stand for election. you must have the time, the amount of time you spend on these boards!!

"grow-same" shame it wasn't "some"!

Yes but this so called minority, don't have to devote hours of their time do they? the only time they have threatened to pack it in is when a few clubs have tried disagreeing with their decision making, they must be enjoying it, or else they wouldn't get involved.

No one in this world is above criticism, our beloved national sporting press spend most of their waking hours criticizing the likes of Capello etc, doesn't mean they could do a better job does it?
