A cricketer has been banned until 2012 after an MP Sports Cherwell League disciplinary hearing.
Bourton Vale’s Mark Whitney received the lengthy suspension at the hearing into their Division 1 match at Cumnor on July 3.
During that match, a throw to the wicket-keeper struck Cumnor batsman John Williams on the head.
This prompted a confrontation that ended with Whitney leaving the pitch after being asked to by the umpires Mick Stockwell and David Blake.
Whitney has been banned from playing any Cherwell League cricket until 2012 and must send letters of apologies to Cumnor CC and the umpires before he can play again.
Cherwell League secretary Peter Tomlin said: “It was a very serious incident.”
The punishment was particularly strong as Whitney had previously received a two-match ban after an incident with the crowd in a Division 1 match at Horspath earlier this season.
At the same hearing, Bourton Vale were deducted 50 points. This has been suspended for the remainder of the season, providing no further discplinary report of any level is received.
Bourton Vale captain Paul Lazenbury has been bannned for four matches, with two of them suspended for the rest of the season, pending any further disciplinary breach.
