CRICKET: Eason shines in Horspath cruise

MP Sports Cherwell League - Div 1

Horspath moved another step closer to their first title by beating Buckingham Town with ease on Saturday.

Put in to bat, Town had managed 174-8 from their 53 overs, with James Gear (46), Daniel Harris (39) and Leigh Tomlinson (33) providing the bulk of the runs.

Lee Mason (3-56) led the way with the ball, and then watched Adam Krol hit 50 and skipper Robbie Eason compile a mature 65 not out as the league leaders cruised to 175-3.

Shipton-under-Wychwood st-ay a distant second after pulling off a similar result at Cumnor.

The hosts were asked to bat and got off to a decent start thanks to James Neilson (47), then got bogged down before John Williams added some impetus with a fine 74 not out.

But Cumnor’s final score of 183-7 never looked like being enough once Simon Hole got going, and he was undefeated on 76 when victory was achieved in the 44th over with four wickets down.

Challow & Childrey returned to losing ways despite a brave effort to defend 106 all out at Bletchley Town.

Off-spinner Tom Joraslafsky tied all the Challow batsmen up in knots, taking 4-20 from 16 overs, as only James Phillips provided much resistance with a dogged 48.

The home side were then in deep trouble on 49-6, but Mark Grass hit a quickfire 30 to take them to maximum points without further loss.

Oxford 2nd are up to third – their highest position of the season – after battering Bourton Vale by 82 runs.

Chris Sandbach (85), Wasim Mehmood (44) and Gus Kennedy (32) were all in good form for the visitors, who made 233-5 after being inserted.

But the man-of-the-match performance came from Adam Leach, who took 6-50 as Vale were dismissed for 151.

Surely this Eason has to be close to a county call up the lad just doesn't get out! Rumours he's been round aston rowant recently though... Possible transfer target for the rowant or is there a hidden agenda here?? Any comments???

See young Jimmy Phillips of Challow continues to score runs in a poor side also, but rarely gets a mention

Dave indeed he has!, three minor county fifties and an average of just over 30 and a top score of 90 v herefordshire and that was against an ugly looking McCague running in to bowl. Rumours of Eason Pulling are incorrect!, his track record is amazing when touring for Oxfordshire!

well surly get him in - Sounds like a gun!!!! Amazed he doesnt play in the home counties against bowlers that will almost challenge his ability.

We need cricketers off this ability and who have dominated minor county cricket. Call him up now. Lets get the pressure started on here now on the selectors.

Dominated minor-county cricket?? I think a top score of 150+ and a few other 100's is required to say someone is 'dominating'??

I see a lad called Jewell was again tagged as a potential county call up?.
Is it about time he gives the gloves up and concentrates fully as an opening batsman?, from what iv'e seen the lad can't catch a cold!
