CRICKET: Launder cleans up for Banbury


Banbury A triumphed in a last-over thriller for the second week running in the Banbury Indoor League Division 1 as they pipped Charlbury by two wickets with a ball to spare.

Simon Launder, who smashed 69 in last week’s one-run win over clubmates Banbury, hit an unbeaten 27 and with Steve Beck making 31 not out, Banbury A squeezed past Charlbury’s 115-3.

Ashley Rump (37no) and Andy Timms (25no) had led the way in Charlbury’s innings.

Great & Little Tew went down by nine runs to Preston Capes, for whom Oxfordshire batsman Rob Williams hammered an unbeaten 51.

Banbury eased to a 48-run win over Hook Norton.

Lloyd Sabin (32no) and Jimmy Phillips (27no) took Banbury to 127-3, before Hook Norton were bowled out for 79.

Banbury Twenty beat Byfield by four wickets. Dave Clarke hit an unbeaten 28 to take Twenty past Byfield’s 70-5 with three overs left.

Horspath CC start their adult and junior nets at Magdalen College School, Oxford, tomorrow.

Senior and under 17 nets are from 8-9.30pm, with under 13 and 15 nets from 7-8pm.

Indoor training for under 9s and 11s starts at Horspath Village Hall tomorrow (5.30-6.30pm) for the first week, and then 5-6pm on subsequent weeks.

Indoor circuit training for adults and under 17s gets under way at Horspath Village Hall on Monday (7-8pm).

l A FAST bowling workshop is coming to Abingdon in April, hosted by leading coach Ian Pont.

Pont, author of the Fast Bowler’s Bible part-time advisor to Darren Gough, Shoaib Akthar and Dale Steyn, brings his workshop to Abingdon School on April 7.

The three-hour £65 session is open to any medium or fast bowler aged 11 and upwards.
