CRICKET: Hole is new Shipton skipper

Simon Hole has rejoined Shipton-under-Wychwood as captain to spearhead their push for the Home Counties Premier League.

The 26-year-old top-order batsman left the club in 2006 to play for Oxford and then moved to Banbury, where he was also head groundsman.

But he is happy to be back after being confirmed in the role at the MP Sports Cherwell League Club’s AGM.

Shipton chairman Stephen Brain said: “The appointment of Simon means we have a young captain who will hopefully attract quality players to come and join the club in our push for promotion into the Home Counties League.

“We also have a new Nursery Ground, which will improve our facilities greatly, meaning we can hold third XI and juniors games at Shipton this season.”

Shipton will begin their indoor net sessions on Sunday, February 7 from 6-7pm at Radley College.

Div 1 bowlers already lining up for a go! If his threat to open the bowling is serious, the batsmen will be keen as well!! Simon, you are an animal.

Groundsman?? He'd make a better lollypop man!!!!
I heard the only way he'd be guaranteed a game was to become captain. Everyone knows Les is the best in the family!

Holey will be one of the best third man to third man fields in the league, no doubt about it.

He will also produce a good deck.

I reckon he will go okay at Shipton, lets be honest, they dont have much, so should be a standout for them.
