Ian Caunce starred again as Oxfordshire Over 50s made virtually certain of their place in the last 16 with a cracking six-wicket win over Warwickshire at Great & Little Tew.
The Oxford Downs opener smashed 85 as the reigning champions overhauled Warwickshire’s 205-7 with eight balls to spare in a match reduced to 33 overs a side due to rain.
Caunce, who hit five sixes and five fours, shared a second-wicket stand of 126 with Alec Cunningham, who batted well for his 55.
Malcolm Evans then produced some lusty blows as Oxon clinched victory in fading light at 9pm.
It hadn’t been until 4.30pm that the game got under way following some terrific work by the ground staff.
Oxon inserted Warwickshire and Andrew Wingfield Digby was the pick of their attack with 2-23, while Rob Willis took a terrific catch on the boundary.
It means Oxon have now won five of their six group games, with their final match against Gloucestershire at Gloucester City on Thursday.
Oxfordshire’s only defeat so far came to Wales by four wickets in their first match at Oxford Downs in May.
